By written agreement with the City of Atlanta, College Park opened the first branch of the Atlanta Public Library System.

Newton Estates, a College Park development, is located on the estate where "Green Gables", a mansion owned by the Harris family, was located.

The first trackless trolley service in lieu of street cars were installed in College Park in 1937.

College Park erected the first neon signs in Georgia in 1935 at various entrances to the city which became a model for other southern cities planning to erect similar signs.

College Park claims credit for being the first town in the Atlanta area, some say in the United States, to display a large electrically-lighted Christmas tree outdoors in 1926.

The first public school built in College Park "was featured in the first educational exhibition held in Piedmont Park as the model school." - College Park Herald, April 15, 1913.

The first Garden Club in the State of Georgia was organized in College Park in 1909.

College Park installed the first suburban streetcars in 1902.

Historical Architecture
College Park has the fourth largest urban historic district in Georgia, with 867 structures on the Historic Register.

The City’s historical collection consists of homes, monuments, businesses, schools, churches, parks, a cemetery, government building and railway station.

The College Park Women’s Club, located in an historical structure built in 1897 on Main Street, offers facilities to accommodate 300 guests and is equipped with a kitchen and stage.

College Park is one of the few cities in the country that can boast of having a female architect actively involved in planning and design during in the 1890’s.
