The City requires a person having custody of any animal (including but not limited to pets such as a dog, cat, pig, bird, rodent or reptile) to confine said animal at all times by one of the following means:

· a leash of not more than six (6) feet in length and in the care of a competent person;
· inside an area completely enclosed by a fence sufficient to keep the pet contained therein;
· inside a carrier appropriate for the particular animal; or
· inside a house or completely enclosed structure.

All animals not confined shall be impounded. The owner of or the person harboring any impounded animal shall be charged and brought before the city court and fined not less than thirty-five dollars ($35.00). Subsequent violations by the same owner shall be considered by the city court, which shall levy a progressively higher fine as the circumstances warrant.

Any animal seized and impounded by the city shall be detained for a period of forty-eight (48) hours at the Fulton County Animal Control Shelter and if not claimed or redeemed by the owner or the person harboring said animal within such period, shall be disposed of in such manner as designated by Fulton County Animal Control. No animal shall be returned to the owner or the person harboring said animal until proof of rabies inoculation has been submitted or the owner has paid the inoculation fee and caused the animal to be inoculated.

Citizens may report complaints regarding animals at large or dangerous animals to the College Park Animal Control Division, 404-669-3778. The animal control officer's authority to investigate complaints includes the power to enter onto public and private property for the purpose of periodic inspection. All animal bites should be reported to Animal Control or the Police Department, and quarantined accordingly.

Dead animals are removed from public streets and curbsides only.

Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Dobermans, any dog in a pitbull classification, and any dog that has previously bitten a human have special restrictions in the City of College Park. Please contact the Animal Control Officer for further information on this subject.
